My Reflection of 2011

This year has been life - changing for me.

My Learning) Well too be honest, I think I’ve made progress in my learning. I have pushed myself to try and achieve to the expectations with the willing help of Mrs Tui.

My Behaviour/Attitude) My behaviour and attitude has changed. I have kept to my commitments such as netball practices, choir & doing road patrol making sure all students get home safely. I have related to others well & overall I have grown to be more of a leader. I have set good examples and was that close to being leader of 2012. Although in my eyes, I’m still a leader and will continue to be one till I leave this school.

My Conscience

I have been learning a new strand about my conscience. My conscience helps me to grow through what I think, say and do.
It tells me what's right and what's wrong.

During Maths time this week, I have been working on Mathematical website. My activity was about Division.

e.g.
Mr Hohepa bought 20 Easter small eggs.
He kept 1/4 and gave the rest to Mr Hohepa, Joe and Mima to share equally.

a) How many did he give away altogether?

20 divide 4 = 5. So the answer is 5

I was confident at Level 2 and 3 but I struggled a little at Level 4.
I am hoping that I make progress.

It was a fantastic day.
Last Saturday 15 October, I went to a Carnival with my cousins and sister. The carnival was held at the Glen Innes shopping centre. I was excited. I couldn't wait to watch my brother's band perform. A musical, fun and happy day was ahead of me.

Arriving to the carnival, boredom struck straight away. I didn't' expect the carnival to be so dead like this. I wanted to go home. Surprisingly, enormous banners were in the air. I was getting suspicious. "Is it starting?" I looked over someone's shoulder. To my surprise, I saw my friend Anita and Agnes walking with their Sunday school. A lot of cultures performed, such as, Samoans, Tongans and several more.

4:00 came. Sweet Release from Sacred Heart College was now ready to perform. Hooray, Brendan’s performing I yelled and cheered to my cousins. WOW, my sister replied. Their first 4 songs that were sung were covers and last 2 were originals. I enjoyed them a lot. Boredom was forever gone.

It was 5:45. Light was slowly fading. OMG, OMG, J Williams, my cousin shouted loudly. OMG, I gasped, K-one too. I was thrilled to see them. I couldn't believe my eyes. J Williams and K-one were going to perform to us. I was excited. The carnival turned out to be what I expected. They performed to us She's A Killer, Jump and many more songs. They entertained us heaps. People were jumping, screaming and yelling. It seemed and felt like a real concert.

Jumping, screaming, fun and music came to an end. It was time for J Williams and K-one to go. I ran up to J Williams to shake his hand, but 2 security guards stopped me. While J Williams was with another fan, Catherine and I begged him to come our direction. As he came to us we shook his hand. I pulled his hand like I was playing tiger war. 2 security guards didn't even try and stop me. I was surprised.

6:30, time to go, my sister bellowed. We all walked back home, sweaty and exhausted. While walking home, Catherine and I couldn't wait to tell the whole world, we touched J Williams. My cousins and sister were annoyed at our childish behaviours. What a spectacular day we all experienced.

My Maths Reflection for this week

During Maths time this week I have been learning about problem solving.
I learnt a easier and simpler strategy.

e.g.

Jane has 48 carrots in 4 bags.
How many carrots in each bag?

10 X 4 = 40
2 X 4 = 8
40 + 8 = 48

SO THE ANSWER IS 12 ! !

Last Friday our whole school celebrated the feast day of our patron saint, Saint Pius X. The celebration began with a whole school mass followed by the Talent Quest after the morning break. The bell rang for the end of the break.

Class by class entered the hall. Everyone was seated. The talent quest begun.
"WHAT'S UP, ST PIUS, Welcome", our MC's, Lavinia and Robertanna chorused out.
"First up we have Room 4 singing for us a class song", Lavinia announced.
The talent quest continued. More items were still to come.
"Next up Joshua will now sing to us, I Wanna Go by Britney Spears. Little Joshua walked up to the stage. Being the DJ, I carefully pressed the start button for his song to begin. Joshua started to sing. He was so brave. I really admired him.
Suddenly his voice began too wavey. Tears rolled down. He had stage-fright.
His tears were like raindrops. He became emotional. I felt for him.
Justine Toumaua sprang up to the stage. He started dancing around. What great support. Other students joined Justine. I joined in and sang with Joshua. The whole school clapped and sang along. What great spirit. The song ended. Joshua was so courageous to stand up and sing to everyone. More songs and dances continued as the talent quest went on. I really admired the way everyone supported little Joshua. That’s what make us all so special of being at St. Pius X school.

To end our special day, everyone had fish and chips for lunch. Everyone waited in their classrooms for the Fish and Chips to arrive. "hmmmm, What's that smell", I said. "Yay, it's the Fish and Chips". It was great to have it for a change.
I am looking forward for the feast of St Pius X celebration next year.

What I learnt today in Religious Education

Today during Religious Education I learnt that Jesus is the good news.

He came as a human being to show us who God is.

A Strategie I learnt in Maths

This week during Maths I have been learning to use tidy numbers to solve mathematical problems.

Tidy numbers are numbers that end with 0.

Here is a example.

84 + ? = 104
I then add 6 to 84 = 90
90 + 10 = 100
add 4 = 104

6 + 10 + 4 = ?

6 + 4 = 10 + 10 = 20

Court issue

Should rough games be acceptable in the court or not acceptable.

Students of St Pius X Catholic School constantly play rough games in the court. The court is not a place where students should get hurt by the rough games that are played around them.

Firstly, there are too many games that are played in the courts, that causes confusion and frustration. Such as Netball, Touch, Howl, Volley-ball, Bull-rush and King-ball. I find that the constant rough games really annoying. There are balls that are thrown around and could hit anybody.

Secondly there are a few netball girls that are practicing which gets annoying for them too.

Thirdly if someone gets hit by any ball, things could turn into arguments or fights.

The students who play Touch should play on the field. Therefore it’s a much safer area for them to play at.

In conclusion, the students that play roughly should be aware and considerate of those who are around them. Rough games should not be acceptable and should stop right now.

Buoyancy

In Integrated Studies we are learning about Buoyancy which is sinking and floating. Sinking is when a objects goes under the surface. Floating is when a object stays above the surface. Objects that float is lighter than the water. Objects that sink is heavier than the water.

We had a experiment that related to our topic. Mrs Tui filled a huge tub full of water and got objects for us to throw in, and see if that object either sinks or floats.

This is a picture of our experiment!

What I've learnt in Maths

In Maths I've learnt easier and faster strategies to solve equations and problems.
e.g. Step 1. 9 X 7 =
Step 2. 10 X 7 = 70
Step 3. 70 - 7 = 63

I enjoy doing Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.

Now that I've learnt many strategies I am hoping that my levels will change and that I make progress.

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

During Religious Education we've been talking and learning about the Holy Spirit and his descend to the Apostles on Pentecost Day.

The Holy Spirit gave the Apostles warmth, strength and courage to continue to preach the Good News of Jesus. They spoke in different languages and were understood by many.

Today we are Jesus' Apostles, we need to continue to proclaim the Kingdom of God.

The Final Count Down!

The moment I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. The whole of room 7 and 6 students received their own individual net books.

We got this tool not to help us with our learning but to change the way we learn
. As I unwrapped my net book my face lit up. The moment I’ve been waiting for arrived.

Out loud we counted down, from 10 - 1 as we turned on the start button with our index finger.

“CLICK” went the start button.

I was filled with thankfulness and happiness that we’ve finally got to touch and hold our very own net books.

It was nearly time to have a little play on our net books, but first we had to follow a few instructions that Miss G demonstrated on one of the machines.

We had to type in our user name from our email address and think of a good 8 character password for our log in.

The clock was ticking and soon our fun had to end. Tick, Tock, tick, tock went the clock, it was time to put away our net books.
My face dropped as I packed up my net book carefully.
I
t felt like I was saying good bye to someone who passed away.

What a day full of excitement and being impatient.

Heres a video of our first experience using our net books.

ENJOY! ENJOY! ENJOY!

A Prayer From My Heart!

Dear Jesus

Thank You for sacrificing your life for us. I feel appreciated, happy and blessed. Thank you for showing us how to forgive others, love our enemies and be virtuous.

You sacrificed your life by going through those 14 stations that gave you a hurtful, painful hard time. You did not complain. You set good examples that are still present right now.
May I try to be more like you.

AMEN!
