Camp!

Dear Mum and Dad, trying to work harmoniously with others was a goal I took with me to Piha Mills Camp.

I enjoyed learning how to make tents with simple gear with my group. It taught me skills to use if I am stuck in the bush. Archery, Poles+Planks and Orienteering were activities that gave me the chance to work with the people in my team and get to now them better. get to Poles+Planks and Orienteering showed how much teamwork I had.

Our walk to the waterfall was fantastic. I enjoyed listening to the babbling sound of the water. I enjoyed swimming in the shivering water too.

Our visit to the Piha beach was amazing. The view was beyond beautiful. It was my first time seeing Lion Rock. I enjoyed making my own sandcastle of Rangitoto Island. It was an opportunity for me to be by myself and show my peers I am capable of working independently.

Overall I enjoyed showing off my volley ball skills, getting to know each other better, working alongside with different people, sleeping in the tent with Lavinia, Robbie and Dorothy and in the Dorm with the rest of the girls, eating delicious meals, pranking people but overall it was a great experience being at a different and fun place than home.

Mum and Dad, I am proud to say that I achieved my goal. I managed to work harmoniously with my peers and especially the people I just got to know more about. :-)

Persuading the Board of Trustees about Camp!

I beg you on bended knees, please continue the camp for the year 7 and 8 students every second year. It is unfair that you stop it as the previous years there has been camp. Look at all the childrens faces showing how much they want to experience being at camp.

This gives the children an opportunity to communicate with people they haven't worked with and to continue here back at school. It allows them to do fun activities they don’t usually do.
Please Board Of Trustees, let the camp continue, give them the chance. Thank You.

Binoculars!

Binoculars are visual instruments used by people. It has a lens for each eye.
It points correctly in the same direction allowing people to use their eyes when seeing objects far and near.

Binoculars regularly come in two main designs. There is the Roof Prism, and the Porro Prism design. They are both similar to each other. They help the viewers when birdwatching, wildlife viewing and at sporting events, but they both have their negatives and positives.

I enjoy using binoculars. They are very helpful, useful and handy to carry around. Now there are more advanced objects like Binoculars called telescopes. I wonder what it’s like to use a telescope?

French, Week 1, Term 4

Today for French I have been recapping on what I've learnt last term by using a website called Babbel. I learnt the formal way to greet someone and the informal way too. The new word I learnt today that refers to greeting in French is BIENVENUE. Bienvenue means WELCOME.

Here is a screenshot of my Babbel home page.

Reflection for Week 6

On Friday 24 August of Week 6, Room 7 were each given a 'caught being good' and was asked to write down what virtue each person has been showing. I wrote down the virtue of Commitment.

This week I have been showing the virtue of Commitment especially in the Mass preparations.
I was committed to conduct and lead the choir for the feast day of our school and farewell mass of Mrs Koloti.

Week 6 was such a busy week, with the mass preparations leading on with the musical evening preparations and netball tournaments all covering up most of our learning time. However I sure enjoyed Week 6 of Term 3.

OH NO!!

Annie and Angelica were getting ready for their school camp in the forest. Orienteering was their first activity. Their teacher, Mrs Jolie gave them their orienteering gear.

They started at the starting line. They made their way to the 1st and 2nd control, out of 10. They were alone in the forest. Walking past the trees and bushes they heard footsteps. They were frightened. They dropped everything and ran off.

They tried to find Mrs Jolie. But she was not in sight. Scared and Nervous were Annie and Angelica as they were lost. Annie looked across at Angelica and saw that she was upset.

It was getting darker. “OH NO”! They held each other hand-in-hand and both said “everything will be alright”. All of a sudden they saw a bright light shining from one direction. They ran towards the light and saw that it was Mrs Jolie. “Mrs Jolie, Mrs Jolie” they yelled, with relief. “You found us”, they said. Mrs Jolie wrapped them up in a blanket and took them back to their tents.

Reflection for Maths, Week 5

During this week I have been learning to use multiplication to solve addition and subtraction problems where common factors can be found. It was quite hard for me to understand it but I managed a little with the willing help of Mrs Tui and Miss Anderson.
Here is an example.
e.g. 24 + 27 + 22 + 28 = 4 × 25

Tweety falls down

There was a little bird named Tweety. She fell out of her nest and onto the ground. Tweety cried and cried, but no one heard her. Just then Earl the squirrel came and suggested that she should try climb the tree. Tweety tried but she couldn't get any grip on the tree. Suddenly Mat the cat came and said to Tweety she should try flapping her wings. Tweety flapped her wings and to her amazement she started to fly up into the sky. She landed safely into her nest and chirped happily. Tweety was relieved. She lived happily ever after.

John Chapter 21. John Chapter 21 tells us how Jesus appeared to his disciples the 3RD time.
One day a few of his disciples went out fishing. Simon Peter believed that he could catch some fish, but he caught none. A man then appeared to them. Simon Peter knew it was the Lord. Jesus told them to cast the net to the right side of the boat. They as what Jesus had suggested. As they cast the net to the other side there were too many fish.
As said before, this was the third time Jesus appeared to his apostles.

During Religious Education we have learned a new strand for the term. We have been learning more about Easter. Easter is a very special and important event. It is when Jesus rose again from the dead. We need to remember that Jesus is with us now and always. He is our guide through spirit.
Here is my title page for our Easter strand.

My Holiday

During my holidays, I went to the community holiday programme. It was held in the parish hall. I was leading the games, with the willing help of Sefo and Olalini. I was Halamehi’s assistant.

After prayers, we got started. “Listen up everyone”, I yelled. “Leaders, 8 little kids for Cat & Mouse”. “Quick, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” I gasped. Both teams were settled. They were ready to start. “On your marks, get set, GO”, Sefo and Lini shouted. Simeone ran as fast as he could. He tried to escape from the Crazy Smurf runners. Crazy Smurfs, struggled to get him out. Both teams cheered. They chanted so loud, my ears were so sore.

Time came by. We played more games. We played Dodge ball, Jockeys and many more fun games. Both teams became true competitors. Tick Tock, went the clock. It was lunch time. Halamehi dished out the food and handed it out. “ You can play after your finish guys, I shouted. “45 minutes to play”.

Time passed quickly. “5 minuted to go guys”. The clock striked 1:30. “Everyone inside now”, I screamed at the top of my lungs. When everyone was inside, I could see sweat dripping down peoples foreheads. I said to myself, “Gross”.

Next we played more games. People got more sweaty and exhausted. As time passed, it was time to end the day. To end the day off, we said prayers. Straight after prayers, everyone walked their directions, heading for their next destinations. “Bye guys”, I yelled.

Retreat, Leadership Role

video
What a view.

Arriving to the St Francis Friary, Retreat Centre, I was amazed at the beautiful view. The trees, bushes and plants were as colourful as the rainbow.
We were greeted by Brother Philip. He welcomed us and directed us to a room where we all gathered together. Instructions were given and rules were put in place. I knew straight away that my 2 days and 1 night stay here was going to be a great time for me.

Brother Phillip then asked us to assemble in the chapel. We had a quiet prayer time. We reflected on ourselves as leaders of the school. Brother Phillip then gave each of us a notebook. Our notebook was more of a diary. This was a notebook that only God and I could look at. During prayer time we each lit a dedication candle. I dedicated my candle to my family.
Prayer time came to an end. We were then led to a room upstairs which was called our meeting room.

Time went by. Mrs Tui and Joanne led us to our rooms. I quite fancied the room. It was just right for me. I packed my stuff away quickly and hurried back to the meeting room. We played a few activities. I enjoyed it a lot. We had to walk around the room and ask 3 people a question that was on a piece of paper we each had. I had to ask 3 people if the have won a prize in raffle.
I managed to find my three.

Day 1 was slowly coming to an end. It was sleep time. I felt a bit homesick. I missed my family so much that I wanted to go back home. Lavinia was feeling the same way as me. She asked me if I wanted to sleep with her since we’re both homesick.

Our time had come to an end. I just wanted to stay one more night. Although I was homesick at first, the time flew by fast like a cheetah running to its prey. However, what a trip to begin my leadership role this year.

School Opening Mass for 2012

Today was a special mass for our school, Saint Pius X. It was our opening mass for 2012. The whole school attended with Room 7 leading the mass.

During the mass I read the gospel. I felt special and blessed, reading the gospel for the first mass of 2012. It was a great pleasure.
Ofa was doing the first reading. She read beautifully. The reading reminded us that the only way to achieve our goals is to work hard. I learnt that I need to not be influenced by those who are lazy.

I was in the music group leading the singing. The mass ended. We all sung the final hymn with our heads held high.

Walking outside, I was surprised at the number of people who attended. It was great to see so many parents attend our opening mass for 2012.

Loafing around leads you nowhere.
If you want a better future, Work for one. !!!!

Kiwi Sports

The bell went for the beginning of the day. I couldn’t wait! We all rushed for line up. Yes! It’s Room 7’s turn. We were the first.
Room 7 filed into the courts to meet Marcel, our instructor. The rackets were piled up beautifully. There was a container of balls beside. I grabbed a racket and a ball when told. I rushed over to the other end. I was really excited to play tennis.

We did a few basic skills. It was quite hard for me. I struggled, so did my mates. “I can do it”, I said to myself. I kept trying.

We played a few games. I really enjoyed it. It was fun too. We played King/Queen of the court. The game was all about FOCUS.
It was pretty challenging. However I managed and enjoyed every bit.
I hit the ball with power. I felt proud of myself.

It was time to go. Oh No! Time went so fast. It didn’t seem that long. I really enjoyed my first tennis experience. I can’t wait for next time.
